Arecibo - Under the leadership of Professor Ángel Acosta Colón, more than 100 students who have participated in his research course at the Physics-Chemistry Department of the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo (UPRA) have immersed themselves in the past few years in projects ranging from mapping to the search for fossils, but above all they have dedicated themselves to understanding a mysterious world: the country's caves.

Starting in March, Puerto Rico will have a new astronaut in the form of Marcos Berríos, who at the beginning of that month will graduate as part of the generation of candidates for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Artemis program, becoming the second Puerto Rican space explorer after Joseph "Joe" Acabá.

InterAguadilla team is the only one from PR in national agricultural competition "2024 Agricultural Export Market Challenge".

InterAguadilla team has been selected as one of 19 U.S. institutions to participate in the "2024 USDA Agricultural Export Market Challenge" competition organized by the Federal agency of the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), in collaboration with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), both in Washington, DC. Among the 19 U.S. institutions selected to participate, we are the only ones from Puerto Rico.

Wetlands: vital ecosystems threatened by climate change and human activity

The Cabo Rojo Salt Flats are among the most affected, and their restoration will begin in March.


Despite the importance of wetlands for humans and other species, these ecosystems - historically and erroneously considered wastelands - face threats from climate change and from the citizenry itself, with actions such as drainage and landfilling, compromising their vital functions.

Pedro Pierluisi announced Monday the beginning of the construction of a center dedicated to research and entrepreneurship in the areas of science and technology, along with two other initiatives that, with an allocation of federal and state funds, seek to promote economic development through the Molecular Sciences Research Center of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR).
