The Space Science Center at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a full-time position as an Associate Professor/Research Scientist/Engineer/Assistant Director. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2023

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Space Science Center consistently manages multiple NASA, DoD, and other government contracts related to small satellite systems development and operations. These include larger scale efforts (Lunar IceCube), flight missions (CXBN-3 and DM Flight validation experiment) and contracts related to programs that require specific skillsets in space communications. Additionally, Morehead State University’s 21 m Space Tracking Antenna is an affiliated node on NASA’s Deep Space Network (DSS-17). State-of-the-art systems have been implemented, including RF and IF processors, back-end digital signal processing systems, and monitoring and control systems. A 12 m Ka-band ground station is in development, which will allow the team to contribute to high data rate beyond-LEO missions. These systems must be continually evolved and configured for specific NASA, DoD and commercial space missions. This position is key in the evolution of these technical systems and in the formulation and implementation of the Center’s small satellite and Deep Space Ground Station programs.
 
The primary role of the Associate Professor/Research Scientist/Engineer will be to co-manage and support the research and development projects currently underway at the Space Science Center and to teach graduate and undergraduate level courses in space systems, space systems engineering and mission operation and planning.
 
REQUIREMENTS:  Ph.D. (or A.B.D.) in Aerospace Engineering, Space Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Space Communications Systems, Astrophysics or Planetary Science/Astronomy and a minimum of 5 years of experience with space communications software and hardware systems, and related functional and performance testing. Must have experience in at least one of the following three areas: (1) space communication systems, (2) space mission formulation, or (3) space mission operations. Must also have experience in grant development and grant management. Previous teaching experience in space-related courses, particularly in communications systems courses is desirable. Industry experience is highly valued, particularly in NASA, DoD and/or ITAR security environments.
