The Yale Ciencia Initiative (YCI) will soon be posting a job opening for a Research Associate. The Yale Ciencia Initiative is a collaborative team within Yale School of Medicine's Office of DEI dedicated to designing and leading innovative programs that broaden access to STEM and health training and careers and that promote supportive research environments for all, particularly scientists from historically minoritized, marginalized and excluded backgrounds.

The group is led by Dr. Giovanna Guerrero-Medina, who is also the Executive Director of Ciencia Puerto Rico and the Director for DEI of the Wu Tsai Institute. The team features diverse experts in DEI, science communication, and professional development and strong partnerships with groups like CienciaPR and iBiology. YCI is responsible for programs such as the Yale Ciencia Academy, the Program to Advance Training in Health and Science (PATHS), and the Intersections Science Fellows Symposium.

The Research Associate will co-direct the PATHS program, help develop curricula for the Yale Ciencia Academy (YCA), and help further publish results for these programs as well as a national study on the prevalence of micro aggressions in graduate school. The Research Associate will also supervise interns; contribute to data collection and analyses, progress reports, presentations, and scholarly publications; and help identify and pursue funding opportunities. This is a perfect position for a recent grad student or young professional looking to start their path in the leadership of academic programs to promote professional development, mentoring and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). In fact, we have had great success recruiting recent graduate students with a commitment to change systems to make the sciences more welcoming and inclusive. This position will give you opportunity to innovate, grow, and be promoted. Two recent Research Associates have continued on to program director positions!

The ideal candidate will have direct experience with graduate training (through an MS or PhD degree) and have paid or volunteer experience designing and leading diversity training programs. We particularly seek someone who is creative and ambitious with respect to their career and impact; is proactive, organized, and responsible; has excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; can communicate and interact with both expert and non-expert audiences; is comfortable with a range of software and technology; and is an independent thinker and collaborative and inclusive team member.

Applicants must be based in CT or be willing to relocate. The position offers flexibility in work hours and partial telework arrangements. We can assist with relocation expenses.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Dr. Guerrero-Medina to be notified once the position opens.
