I am a Puerto Rican neuroscientist with a passion for science outreach and education. I am currently a postdoc working on the mechanisms of circuit establishment and function in the mammalian retina in Dr. Mrinalini Hoon's lab. I earned my PhD in Neuroscience studying how voltage-gated potassium channels control membrane excitability using structural and electrophysiological approaches. I am a recipient of the NIH Blueprint Diversity Specialized Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Advancement in Neuroscience (D-SPAN) Award (F99/K00). I founded #BlackInBiophysics and co-organized #BlackInBiophysicsWeek, an international social media initiative that highlighted and celebrated Black scholars in biophysics and related fields. In addition, I am a #BouchetScholar, a 2019 Yale Ciencia Academy Program Fellow and a Science and Medicine Graduate Research Scholar at UW-Madison. My long-term goal is to become a tenured professor at a major research institution who studies ion channels in the retina, while also being an active advocate for underrepresented minorities in STEM.
